The win gives Charleston a 4-3-2 overall record and a 2-1-1 record in the Southern Conference, while UNC Greensboro falls to 5-4-0 and 1-1-0.
The Spartans out-shot the Cougars 13-4 in the first half but could not get past Goalkeeper Emily Brenner, who had five saves in the first 45 minutes. Despite the numbers, it was College of Charleston's Rhyne who took a throw-in by Amanda Andrews just outside the goal and sent it past Jennifer Stillman at 31:55 for the game's only score.
The Cougars held the Spartans to just six shots in the second half and came away with the eventual 1-0 victory.
For the match, UNC Greensboro led 19-6 in shots and held the 5-0 advantage on corner kicks. However, Charleston led in saves, 8-2, for the difference in the contest.
Abi Nicholas led the Cougars in shots with two, while Rakel Logadottir dominated the Spartans with eight shots, five of which were on goal.
The College of Charleston travels to Greenville, SC, Oct. 4th to take on Furman in a 7:00 PM match, while the Spartans go up to Appalachian State Oct. 3rd for a 2:00 PM kick-off.
