The Cougars are 1-0-0 on the season, while the Broncos are 0-1-0.
Curran's first goal came off an assist from Scott Milroth at the 19:10 mark for a 1-0 CofC lead. Gold gave the Cougars a 2-0 advantage with 20:42 left in the half off an assist from Darren Toby.
WMU cut the margin to 2-1 on Tom Oatley's goal with 42:34 left in the second half. Gold's second score stretched Charleston lead to 3-1 with 34:10 left.
Gold's final tally came from about 15 yards out with 23:14 remaining off an assist from Matt Morris. Gold, a junior from Eueless, Tex., had scored four goals in each of first two seasons.
Curran, a redshirt freshman transfer from UMBC, capped the scoring with goal at the 70:15 mark off Morris' second assist of the night.
Vandy Downs Georgia State, 4-3, in Overtime
In the opener, John Krause scored three goals, including the game-winner with 4:16 left in the first overtime, as Vanderbilt raced out to a 3-0 lead, then rallied to edge Georgia State, 4-3, in the season-opener for both schools.
Krause opened the scoring just 2:20 into the match when his goal off an assist from Pat Ryan staked the Commodores (1-0-0) to a 1-0 lead. Krause gave Vandy a 2-0 lead at the 30:54 mark when he scored off an assist from Austin Woolard. Ryan Paugh's goal at the 35:45 mark gave the Commodores a 3-0 lead at intermission.
Georgia State (0-1-0), which held a 6-2 edge in shots in the second half, cut the margin to 3-1 on Alberto Villareal's goal with 27:41 remaining in the contest. GSU's Dathan Knott's goal with 12:07 left in the match cut the margin to 3-2. Eze Chamerro assisted on Knott's goal which came from about six yards out.
Knott's second goal tied the match at 3-3 with 3:04 left in regulation. After a loose ball scramble, Knott pushed a shot from about eight yards out into the upper right corner of the goal that sent the contest into overtime.
Krause final goal found the back of the net from about 10 yards out. Vanderbilt outshot GSU 11-10 for the game, including 2-0 in the overtime.
The Aaron Olitsky Memorial Classic concludes on Saturday with Georgia State playing Western Michigan at 5:30 and Charleston playing host to Vanderbilt at 8:00.
