The College of Charleston men's soccer team finished its regular season Wednesday night with a non-conference victory over Campbell, 3-1.
With the victory, CofC improved to 10-8-1 overall, while Campbell dropped to 9-6-2.
Sophomore
Casey Gold scored the first goal for CofC in the 12th minute of action to give the Cougars the lead, 1-0. Freshman
Kareem Yearwood and junior
Miles Alden-Dunn both received credit for the assist.
Campbell responded with a goal in the 37th minute from Vince Petrasso to tie the match, 1-1. The goal was unassisted.
Freshman Stephen Nagy scored his first goal of the season in the 38th minute to give the Cougars the one goal advantage. Junior
Grant Guthrie received credit for the assist.
Both CofC and Campbell attempted five corner kicks in the first half. Campbell attempted five shots in the first half, while CofC attempted four.
The Cougars extended their lead with a goal from junior
Doug Edwards in the 71st minute to make the score, 3-1. Seniors
Jabari Seabrook and
Darren Toby each received credit for the assist.
Overall, CofC attempted six shots and five corner kicks in the match, while Campbell took 15 shots and nine corner kicks.
Junior
Corbin Waller had six saves in the match to earn the victory for the Cougars. Aaron Johnson had two saves for Campbell.
The Cougars finished the regular season with a record of 10-8-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the SoCon. CofC hasn't had losing record in the regular season since 2001. This season represents head coach
Ralph Lundy's 25th winning season of his career.
The College of Charleston men's soccer team will host a first round SoCon Tournament match this Sunday against Appalachian State at Patriots Point. The match begins at 3:30 p.m.
On Oct. 21, Appalachian St. defeated CofC, 4-2, in Boone, N.C.
CofC won the 2004 SoCon Tournament, in which the Cougars defeated Appalachian St., 1-0, in the semifinal round.
