Summer Chambless set a new College of Charleston record for the women's pole vault at the 2006 Buc Invitational Saturday with a mark of 11 feet, three and one half inches.
Chambless' mark was good enough for first place in the event as the Cougars begin the outdoor track and field season. Chambless also had another first place finish in the javelin throw after she recorded a distance of 99 feet.
Wells Trompeter and Heather Clark recorded first and third place finishes respectively in the 1500 meter run with times of 5:04.61 and 5:14.13. Trompeter also added a third place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:28.65.
Ashley Arnold notched a second place finish in the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:07.21. Charleston's 4x400 relay team earned a time of 4:07.72 which was good enough for first.
For Charleston's Max Gustaitis and Aubrey Darnell the men's 3000 meter steeplechase was highly productive as they finished first and second respectively with times of 10:23.34 and 10:33.27.
The Cougars will next be in action at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on March 17-18.
