The College of Charleston women's tennis team swept Appalachian State, 7-0, at the Patriots Point Tennis Center in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. on Sunday. The Cougars didn't drop a set and have won four of its last five matches.
The victory improves CofC to 12-5 overall and 3-0 in the SoCon, while Appalachian State drops to 7-7 and 0-2 in the Southern Conference.
The Cougars earned one team point by winning all three of the doubles matches. The team of Holly Dowse and Anna Lee Evans won its fourth consecutive doubles match and 12th of the season with an 8-4 victory over Anna Cotton and Frances Blanton of App. State in the No. 3 doubles match. The CofC doubles team of Laura Borza and Maxine Capewell improved to 9-4 on the season with an 8-4 triumph over Caroline Mauch and Monica Tomas of App. State in the No. 2 doubles match. Chelsea Albertz and Link Leskosky grabbed the other doubles match win for Charleston in an 8-3 win over Amanda Cash and Lauren Holton in the No. 1 doubles match.
CofC won all six singles matches to earn the win. Borza won her sixth consecutive singles match of the season and improved to 12-3 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Cash in the No. 3 singles match. CofC's Amanda Becker also improved her singles record to 11-2 with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win over Cotton in the No. 6 singles match. She has won nine out of her last ten singles matches. Albertz, Leskosky, Evans and Dowse also earned singles wins for the Cougars.
CofC will return to action on Mar. 30 at Elon in Elon, N.C. beginning at 2 p.m. Appalachian State will host Furman in its next match on Mar. 28 beginning at 2:30 p.m.
