
CofC Takes on Uptown Rival

The College of Charleston, which is riding an 11-game winning streak, will face uptown rival Charleston Southern in a non-conference midweek softball doubleheader at Lady Buc Field in North Charleston, S.C., on Apr. 18 at 3 p.m.
The Cougars have won the last 10 in the series, dating back to the 2001 season. The College of Charleston leads the overall series, 26-16.

The Lady Bucs (13-36) hit .222 as a team and lead by Megan Hall, who hits .291 and has a .342 slugging percentage. Tiffany Reid leads the team with 22 RBI. Charleston Southern relies on four arms in the circle with Jillian LaFrance (6-10), who has appeared in 19 games, striking out 75 and issuing 22 walks, for an ERA of 2.72 in 105.2 innings of work. Amanda Noble, who has pitched 132.0 innings, has a 4.48 ERA.
The College of Charleston (25-17), which hits .308 as team, is led by Jennifer Golden with a team-high 11 homers and 45 RBI on the season. She boasts a team-high .770 slugging percentage. Four others are hitting .300 or better for the season.
Kristie Shifflett, who is hitting .354 and boasts a team second-best .661 slugging percentage, has a team second-best 39 RBI and nine home runs in her rookie season. Izmena Cabrera hits .338, followed by Amber Shifflett (.328) and Katie Pesature (.302).
Freshman Terri Mesko (13-7) leads the way in the circle for the Cougars with 134 strikeouts in 133.0 innings of work for an ERA of 1.74. She has issued 55 walks and recorded two saves. Katie Sansouci has gone 70.0 innings, striking 43 and issuing 24 walks, for an ERA of 2.50 in her freshman campaign.
