The College of Charleston women's soccer team returns to Patriots Point Soccer Stadium this weekend for their first matches at home in two weeks. The Cougars will entertain Furman at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24th, then Wofford on Sunday, Oct. 26th at 1 p.m.
The Cougars come into the weekend with a 10-4-3 overall mark, 3-3-2 in the Southern Conference. Last weekend, the team split road contests at Samford (Loss, 0-1) and Chattanooga (Win, 2-0).
The Cougars are led offensively by Megan Manthey, who has tallied 25 points (10 goals, five assists). Manthey registered her first multiple-score game of the season against Chattanooga, as she scored two goals in the second half to lead the Cougars to victory.
On defense, the Cougars have allowed just five goals in Southern Conference play and 12 goals on the year. Senior goalie Erin Smith has made 78 saves and has posted a 0.78 goals against average. She has also recorded seven shutout victories on the year, which is the top mark in the SoCon.
Furman comes into their match with the Cougars with a 10-6-1 overall mark, 4-4-0 in the SoCon. The Paladins dropped their last match to UNC Greensboro, 3-2 on Oct. 19th.
Offensively, Furman is led by Martha Hall, who has recorded 19 points (eight goals, three assists). Goalie Jessica Smith has made 33 saves and has a goal against average of 1.13.
Wofford comes into this weekend with a 2-9-5 record, 1-5-2 in the SoCon. The team dropped their last match to Elon, 1-0 in overtime.
For the season, Casey Rex leads the team in scoring with eight points (three goals, two assists), while goalie Katie McChesney has made 85 saves in between the pipes for the Terriers.
Last season, the Cougars and Furman battled to a 0-0 draw at Patriots Point in the only meeting on the year between the teams. Charleston knocked off Wofford, 2-0, as Amanda Raymond and Morgan Benz scored goals for the Cougars on the night.
