
College of Charleston Women?s Soccer team falls to Furman, 2-1

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. ? The College of Charleston women's soccer team fell to Furman on Saturday afternoon, 2-1, in Southern Conference play at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium.
With the loss, the Cougars drop to 10-5-3 on the year, 3-4-2 in the Southern Conference, while Furman improves to 11-6-1, 5-4 in the Socon.
“We are extremely disappointed to give away a game like that,” said head coach Kevin Dempsey. “It puts us in a must-win situation tomorrow against Wofford. It's going to be a real battle.”
In the first half, the Cougars outshot Furman 3-2 and took the lead with a goal from Megan Manthey in the 35th minute. Assists were credited to Hannah Gmerek and Katie Browne.
In the second half, Furman broke through with a goal in the 75th minute by Sara El-Shami on an assist by Rachel Fry to tie the game.
Furman did not waste anytime taking their first lead in the match, as Rachel Fry scored in the 79th minute on an assist by Katya Gokham that gave the Paladins a 2-1 lead.
In the last 15 minutes, the Cougars had multiple opportunities to score but could not pull through, as Furman held on to win the match.
The Cougars will return to action Sunday, October 26th when they host Wofford at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium. The match is set to start at 1 pm.
