
College of Charleston Women?s Soccer Team Battles Elon to 1-1 Draw

ELON, N.C. ? The College of Charleston women's soccer team and Elon battled to a 1-1, double overtime draw on Friday night in Elon, N.C.
With the draw, the Cougars move to 8-2-2 on the year, 1-1-1 in the SoCon, while Elon goes to 4-4-2 overall, 0-2-1 in the SoCon.
After a scoreless first half, Katie Browne scored her second goal in three matches when she headed in a score off a corner kick from Julie Romanik. The assist was the second on the year for Romanik.
The Cougars held on to the 1-0 lead until the 81st minute, when Elon's Katina Boozer lined up on a free kick from 19 yards out and scored her second goal of the season to knot the game up at one with a little over nine minutes left in regulation.
In the overtime periods, both squads had opportunities on goal, but could not convert and the game ended after 110 minutes in a 1-1 draw.
The Cougars out shot Elon in the match 15-9 and held a 9-3 edge in corner kicks. Goalie Erin Smith kept Elon off the scoreboard for most of the contest and made a total of four saves in goal for Charleston.
The Cougars return to action on Sunday, Oct. 5th when they visit UNC Greensboro in Southern Conference action. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
