GREENSBORO, N.C. --- The College of Charleston women's soccer team fell to UNC Greensboro, 1-0, in overtime on Sunday afternoon in Southern Conference action.
With the loss, the Cougars drop to 8-3-2 on the year, 1-2-1 in the SoCon, while UNC Greensboro improves to 8-4-1 overall, 3-0-1 in the SoCon. Also, with the win the Spartans have now not lost a Southern Conference match in 24 games.
In the first half, UNC Greensboro out shot Charleston 4-2, but could not score due to the efforts of Cougar Goalie Erin Smith, who made two saves to keep the Spartans off the scoreboard.
In the second half, Smith continued to frustrate the UNC Greensboro offense, as the Spartans fired five shots on goal in the period, only to have Smith make a save on four of those shots.
UNC Greensboro, however, would not waste much time in the first overtime period to finally get on the scoreboard. A mere 1:50 into the period, UNC Greensboro's Jenn Partenheimer took a pass from teammate Kelly Attayek and scored the game-winner.
Offensively, Megan Manthey took four shots on the day to lead the Cougars.
The College of Charleston returns to the pitch on Friday, Oct. 10th when they host Davidson in Southern Conference action at Patriots Point. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
