
CofC Women?s Soccer Team Travels to Elon and UNC Greensboro this weekend for pair of SoCon Matches

The College of Charleston women's soccer team continues Southern Conference play this weekend with a pair of road games in the state of North Carolina. The Cougars will visit Elon on Friday, Oct. 3rd at 7 p.m., then UNC Greensboro on Sunday, Oct. 5th at 1 p.m.
The Cougars come into this weekend with an 8-2-1 overall record, with a 1-1 mark in the SoCon after the team split games with Appalachian State and Western Carolina in the opening weekend of league play last week.
The Cougars are led offensively by Megan Manthey, who was named the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Month on Thursday. Manthey leads the team in points (17), goals (6), assists (5) and shots (39), which is also a Southern Conference high. She also leads the SoCon in game-winning goals with three.
Goalie Erin Smith has made 49 saves in between the pipes for the Cougars. She has recorded a conference-high five shutout victories on the year and has recorded a goals against average of 0.81.
Elon comes into the weekend posting a 4-4-1 overall mark, 0-2-0 in the SoCon after the team dropped its first two conference games to Samford (3-0) and Chattanooga (2-1) on the road last week
The Phoenix is led offensively by Molly Caplin, who has recorded seven points on the year (three goals, one assist). Goalie Sydney Little has made 21 saves in 8 starts for Elon.
UNC Greensboro comes into their match with Charleston with a 6-4-1 overall record, 1-0-1 in the SoCon, as the team knocked off Chattanooga (4-1), then battled Samford to a 0-0 draw. The Spartans are riding a 22-match unbeaten streak in Southern Conference play coming into the weekend.
Nicole Danford leads the team with 11 points (four goals, three assists), while Kristin Player has 10 points (four goals, two assists) on the year. Kelsey Karney has made 32 saves and has a goals against average of 0.72 in six starts on the year.
Last season, he Cougars knocked off Elon 2-0 at home, and fell twice to UNC-Greensboro, (3-2 in the regular season, 1-0 in the SoCon Women's Soccer Tournament semifinals).
