GREENVILLE, S.C. --- The College of Charleston men's soccer team earned its second win of the season on Sunday as they blanked Bowling Green, 2-0, on the final day of the 2008 Furman University Diadora/Spinx Invitational in Greenville, S.C.
With the win, the Cougars move to 2-2-0 on the year, while Bowling Green falls to 0-3-0.
In the first half, the Cougars got off to a quick start when Matt Morris headed in his second goal of the season in the 10th minute of the match. Jake Helmig was credited with an assist on the play, his first of the year. Goalie Brendan Smith made three saves to shutout the Falcons in the first period.
In the second half, the Cougars put the game out of Bowling Green's reach in the 77th minute, when David Munson scored his first goal of the season. Zach Prince picked up an assist on the goal, which was his third on the year.
Smith earned his second shutout victory of the season after making a total of four saves.
Also, three Cougars were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts over the weekend: Morris, Prince and Branko Gavric.
The Cougars return to the pitch on Friday, September 12th when they have their first home match of the season against Ohio State at 7:30 p.m. The match is a part of the 2008 Aaron Olitsky Memorial/Nike Classic, which will begin at 5:00 p.m. on September 12th when Brown takes on Furman.
