
Jones Leads Cougars to 66-44 Win Over Pacers

Deidra Jones (Irmo, S.C.) scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while Brooke Kotcella (Anderson, S.C.) added 11 points, to lead the College of Charleston to the 66-44 win over the USC Aiken Pacers in women's basketball exhibition action in front of 783 fans at the Carolina First Arena.
The Cougars, who open the season at North Carolina Nov. 13th at 7 p.m., raced out to a 20-6 lead in the first 12 minutes and never looked back, capitalizing on the Pacers' 13 percent field goal percentage in the first half, and headed into the locker room leading 29-12. The Cougars shot 42.9 percent from the field, going 12-for-28 from the floor.
The second half saw much of the same, with the Cougars extending their lead by as much as 24 points (39-15 with 16:59 to play) and kept the lead about the same the rest of the game. USC Aiken improved its shooting to 32 percent in the second have and cut the margin to 18, 46-38 with 9:50 remaining, but could get no further as Charleston continued its consistent 40 percent second-half shooting and took the 66-44 win.
Leading USC Aiken was Hannah DeGraffinreed, who finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Nakia Pinkney followed with 11 points on the night.
The Cougars shot 41.4 percent from the floor, while the Pacers finished with 22.9 percent. Charleston out-rebounded USC Aiken, 43-37, and had the same number of turnovers at 17 apiece. The bench played strong for the Cougars as they scored 22 of the 66 points, compared to just five for the Pacers.. The Cougars led in the paint as well, 24-14.
