CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston women's tennis raised $527 for Pet Helpers Adoption Center and Spay/Neuter Clinic through the First Annual Charleston Dog Show, held on Dec. 4.
Twenty-one canines and their owners competed in the dog show in the Stern Center courtyard. Local celebrities Judge "Extreme" Akim Anastopoulo and Mrs. Carolyn Cremins were on hand to judge the competition. Radio 95 SX's Brooke Ryan emceed the event.
All profits went directly to Pet Helpers, the Lowcountry's only no-kill animal shelter. The non-profit adoption center also offers humane education programs and works to initiate animal welfare legislation.
"It's heartwarming to see college students stepping up to the plate," Pet Helpers Development Director Tracey Erwin said. "Or the serving line, in the case of the women's tennis team."
Prizes were given for Owner Look-a-like, Most CofC Spirit, Most Holiday Spirit, Best Accessories, Best Tricks and Biggest and Smallest dogs.
"The College of Charleston women's tennis team have been champions on the court, in the classroom and now for a great cause - Pet Helpers," head coach Angelo Anastopoulo said. "The team jumped at the opportunity to help out because they are such pet lovers."
