Former College of Charleston men's basketball player Mike Beckett, sailor Andy Lovell and volleyball player Suzanne Lowry will be inducted into the College of Charleston's Athletic Hall of Fame at halftime of the men's basketball game today against The Citadel at Carolina First Arena.
Beckett was the first Charleston player to score 1,000 points, gather 300 rebounds and account for 400 assists. He played for the Cougars from 1989-92 and scored 1,204 points in 113 games, 18th on the school's all-time scoring list.
Lovell sailed for Charleston during the same years and was a two-time All-American and a two-time honorable mention All-American. He was the Intercollegiate Sailing Association's sailor of the year in 1991. Charleston won the Leonard B. Fowle trophy as the best overall team in college sailing in 1988, and in '91 Lovell won the national singlehanded and sloop titles. He also won the sloop title in 1991, and in 1996 placed second in the Olympic Trials in the Laser class.
Lowry played volleyball from 1989-92 and still ranks first in career kills per game, attack percentage and points per game. She is in the top five in career solo blocks, total blocks and kills. She was the Trans America Athletic Conference player of the year in 1992 and was first-team all-conference in 1991 and 1992.
