The College of Charleston women's tennis team won five of six singles matches en route to a 6-1 Southern Conference win over Appalachian State at the Tennis Center at Patriots Point on Friday. Charleston completed its day with a 7-0 win over Case Western Reserve.
Charleston, which plays host to Davidson at noon on Sunday, improved to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in league play. Appalachian State fell to 3-9 and 0-2.
After Charleston swept three matches to earn the doubles point, Holly Dowse gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Amanda Cash at No. 2 singles. Laura Borza beat Blakeley Bean 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1, Kinsey Casey downed Lindsey King 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 and at No. 3 Carolina Newman beat Heather Prior 6-2, 6-0 for a 6-0 Charleston lead.
ASU's Caroline Mauch knocked off Anna Lee Evans 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 at No. 4 singles play.
In the nightcap, the Cougars won all but two games in singles play en route to the win over the Spartans.
Borza beat Martha Worag at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1. The Cougars also took all three doubles matches with Dowse and Nina Burgoon earning an 8-2 win at No. 1.
