The Cougars begin the Southern Conference portion of their 2009 schedule hosting UNC Greensboro in a three game-set beginning Friday night at 6 p.m. ... the series continues with games on Saturday and Sunday, both slated to begin at 1 p.m.
? Scouting the Opposition
UNC Greensboro comes in this weekend's series with a 1-5 overall mark ... The Spartans dropped their last game at Duke on Wednesday 11-3 ... all-time, Charleston holds a slight 18-16 edge over UNCG, but the Spartans have won five straight games in the series dating back to 2007.

Charleston swept a two-game set from visiting Xavier in comeback fashion on Wednesday, taking a 3-2 decision ... The Cougars won the first game of the series on Tuesday, 9-2.
? Brodin Walks Off
First baseman Joash Brodin continued his hot start to the 2009 season in the comeback win over Xavier on Wednesday, as he laced a walk-off, RBI double down the right field line in the ninth to lead the Cougars to the 3-2 win ... Brodin also hit a game-tying RBI double with two outs in the bottom of seventh to spark the Cougars comeback ... for the year, Brodin is batting a team-high .438 with four homers and 14 RBI.
? Bouronich Dazzling in Debut
Freshman lefty Aaron Bouronich saw the first action of his career on Wednesday against Xavier and looked like a season veteran, tossing seven strong innings in relief to earn his first collegiate win ... Bouronich gave up just three hits and an unearned run over the seven innings ... he also forced Xavier into 10 groundouts.
? Peterson Strong in Second Start
Right-hander Dave Peterson was solid once again on the mound in the Cougars 9-2 win over Xavier on Tuesday ... the freshman earned his first win of the season after throwing five strong innings, allowing just a hit, while forcing 12 groundouts ... for the season, he has posted a 3.97 ERA in two starts.
? Daniels Leads the Way
DH Ryan Daniels posted big numbers in the two-game set with Xavier, going 5-6 with two RBI ... he also hit a double, scored a run, walked three times and was hit by a pitch.
? SoCon Opening Series Success
Since joining the Southern Conference in 1999, Charleston has posted a remarkable 29-1 record in the opening conference series of the season ... the Cougars last loss in an opening series came on Mar. 3rd, 2001, when they dropped a 3-2 decision to East Tennessee State at Patriots Point ... last season, the Cougars swept a three-game set at Davidson to open the conference season, as they outscored the Wildcats 52-13 in the series.
