COLUMBIA, S.C. – Redshirt senior Ethan Plyler hit a go-ahead two-run double in the top of the ninth as College of Charleston baseball beat South Carolina, 6-4, Tuesday evening at Founders Park.

Sophomore Alex LaCoste went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in the victory while freshman Austin Wiegandt fanned six Gamecocks across four innings in his first collegiate start.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST SOUTH CAROLINA:

LaCoste drove in his first run of the ballgame in the first on an RBI fielder's choice.
In his next at bat in the third, the sophomore sent a ball over the left field wall for a three-run shot to give Charleton the 4-0 advantage.
South Carolina chipped away at the lead, scoring a run in the fifth and sixth before tying the ballgame in the seventh.
Plyler came up clutch in the top of the ninth, doubling to the left-center gap to plate graduate Dylan Johnson and LaCoste.
Wiegandt started for the Cougars Tuesday, fanning six batters in the no decision. The righty yielded a long run on one hit and one walk while hitting three batters.
Redshirt sophomore Ryan Hench picked up his first career win, tossing 2.1 scoreless out of the bullpen.

OF NOTE:

Charleston is 8-36 overall against South Carolina and have won both meetings in the Chad Holbrook Era.
Tuesday's win was Holbrook's first time back at Founders Park after spending nearly two decades as a member of the Gamecock coaching staff.
LaCoste picked up his sixth multi-hit performance and fifth multi-RBI game. LaCoste has had multiple hits in four of the last five ballgames.
Plyler collected his team-best sixth multi-RBI contest.
Freshman Jake Amman went 2-for-4 with two runs, his tenth game of the year with two-plus hits.
Amman, Johnson and LaCoste each scored two runs Tuesday.
LaCoste has hits in 17 of the last 18 games, has driven in 19 with nine extra-base hits and has a 1.142 OPS in that span.
