LEWISBURG, PA. - A goal in the 87th minute by Zach Prince (Columbia, S.C.) was the difference, as the College of Charleston men's soccer team knocked off Bucknell, 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Cougars moved to 6-1 on the year, while Bucknell fell to 4-2 with the loss. Charleston returns to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 25th when they take on Stetson at the Jacksonville Soccer Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
In the first half, Charleston got off to a quick start, as Matt Morris (Anderson, S.C.) headed in his second goal in as many games in the 7th minute of the match from eight yards, making the score 1-0. William Moore (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) was credited with an assist on the score.
Bucknell would tie the game at one in the 32nd minute, as CK Kumah scored, as the score remained 1-1 going into the half.
In the second half, Bucknell took a 2-1 lead in the 48th minute as Brendan Burgdorf scored his second goal of the season. Charleston then began their comeback in the 61st minute, when Justin Fojo (Port of Spain, Trinidad.) scored his first goal of the year from 30-yards out.
This set up the stage for Prince's game winner with less than three minutes remaining in the match. Prince scored the golden goal from inside the box and put his shot just inside the right goal post. The score was the second of the season for Prince.
Overall, Bucknell outshot the Cougars 19-18 and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Charleston goalie Clark Hankins (Montgomery, Ala.) made seven saves (five of which came in the second half) to earn the win between the pipes for the Cougars.
