CofC Men?s Tennis Picks Up Three Victories at Hokie Challenge

Co-captains Lukas Koncilia (Tyrol, Austria/Franciscian) and Mickael Trintignac (Le Cannet, France/St. Maria School) defeated Hoosier duo Josh MacTaggart and Alex Van Gils, 8-6, in the top flight of competition. They advanced to face Aba Omodele-Lucien and Christo Schultz of 68th-ranked Harvard, where they yielded an 8-5 decision.
Trintignac teamed up with junior Mickael Boyer (Meudon, France/CNED) in Flight C where the duo beat Harvard's Alexel Chijoff-Evans and Davis Mangham 6-2, 6-2.
In singles action, sophomore Tom Delme (Hamoir, Belgium/Athenne Royale Margueritte Bervoets) claimed a win over Harvard's Josh Tchan. Delme won the first set after engaging in a 22-point tiebreaker, 7-6 (22), one of the longest in NCAA history. He wrapped up the match with a 6-2 victory for the Cougars' only win in singles competition.
Koncilia pushed Chijoff-Evans to a third set, before eventually falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in Flight A of the singles competition. Senior Joe Nicolazzi (St. Louis, Mo./New Mexico) also put up a good fight in the sixth flight, taking the first set in overtime, 7-6 (3), before dropping the next two sets to Indiana's Van Gils.
Charleston has its first duel meet of the season on Feb. 6 when the Cougars travel to Anderson, S.C. for a date with the Trojans of Anderson College.
