
Powell?s Strong Outing Leads Cougars to 3-1 Victory

Charleston opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a RBI single to left by senior SS Joey Bergman (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny). Asheville tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the third with a RBI double to left by Catlin Carter before the Cougars pulled ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the frame. Junior 2B Baker Knox (San Mateo, Fla./Daytona Beach CC) beat out an infield single to second base and advanced to third on a single by DH Kolby Epley (Yadkinville, N.C./Forbush). Leeds proceeded to drive in Knox with a RBI single to second.
Powell scattered 10 hits in seven innings, allowing one run with six strikeouts for his second win of the season. Senior Owen Brittle (Cross, S.C./Florence Darlington Tech) tossed two innings of hitless relief to earn his first save of the season. Taylor Wohlwend took the loss for Asheville, allowing six hits and two runs with five strikeouts. Carter led the Bulldogs with three hits, including two doubles.
Charleston returns to action for a single non-conference tilt with Holy Cross Tuesday evening at Patriots Point. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
