BOONE, N.C. - For the third time in four matches, the College of Charleston men's soccer team required overtime in its ultimately-scoreless draw with Southern Conference-leading Appalachian State at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex on Tuesday night.

The Cougars move to 5-5-4 (1-1-2 SoCon) with the result. Appalachian State (8-2-3, 3-0-1 SoCon) remains unbeaten in league play and extends its unbeaten streak to ten matches.

The windy and rainy mountain weather combined with ASU's six-ranked defense in the country kept the Cougars out of the back of the net for only the third time this season. The two previous occasions ended as 0-0 draws as well.

The best chance of the night came in the second overtime when Francis Twohig (St. Simon's Island, Ga.) found himself one-on-one with Mountaineer keeper Danny Free. Twohig beat the keeper but his glancing shot struck the post and unfortunately bounced harmlessly away from goal.

CofC keeper Kees Heemskerk (Zaandam, Holland) made four saves en route to the 110-minute shut out effort.

The Cougars were narrowly outshot, 15-11, led by Sean de Silva's (Port of Spain, Trinidad) five attempts at goal. Both teams put four attempts on frame.

CofC remains in conference play to host UNC Greensboro at Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at Patriots Point. With a win, the Cougars will jump the Spartans in the SoCon standings and take over fourth place. The top four teams in the league host in the opening round of the SoCon Championships.
