MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's tennis team blanked Case Western Reserve, 7-0, on Saturday morning in the first of two dual matches held at the College of Charleston Tennis Center located at Patriots Point.
The Cougars (2-3) have now won two in a row and dominated throughout the singles and doubles lineup allowing only 11 combined games against the NCAA Division III Spartans (4-3).
Sophomore Irene Viana (Paris, France) clinched the match with a two love-set victory over Kathleen Evers, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles. She was preceded by straight-set wins by senior Emma Hayman (Wanganui, New Zealand) over Case Western's Erika Lim, 6-0, 6-1, and freshman Kelly Kambourelis (Melbourne, Fla.) versus Bianca Patel, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 1 and No. 4 lines respectively.
CofC swept the doubles point for the first time this season with senior Kinsey Casey (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Kambourelis defeating Erika Lim and Emily Pham, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles and the sister tandem of junior Caroline Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) and sophomore Christin Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) securing the point with an 8-0 rout of Case Western's Kathleen Evers and Kara Richardson at No. 2.
The Cougars will face Conference USA-member Memphis (4-6) later this afternoon at 3 p.m. (ET).
