BOONE, N.C. - The College of Charleston men's tennis team suffered its first Southern Conference loss of the season at Appalachian State, 5-2, on Friday afternoon at the ASU Tennis Courts.
The Cougars (14-4, 8-1 SoCon) were two matches away from matching their first-ever perfect Southern Conference season in 2010. However, they still remain in the hunt for the top seed in next week's SoCon Tennis Championships to be held on April 19-22 at the home facilities of The Citadel and CofC.
The Mountaineers (14-6-1, 7-2-1 SoCon) gained the momentum of the match early by winning the doubles point which was tightly-contested by both squads.
The No. 84-ranked duo of senior Mickael Trintignac (Le Cannet, France) and junior Kyle Parker (Richmond, Va.) defeated Appalachian State's Philip Kloc and Sebastien King, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles, but the Cougars lost a close pro-set tiebreaker at No. 2 which gave ASU the advantage into singles.
Trintignac and Parker would be the lone singles winners for the Cougars as Philip Kloc sealed the upset of the league's only remaining unbeaten with a 6-3, 6-3 straight-set victory over senior Tom Delme (Hamoir, Belgium) at the No. 2 line. Trintignac won in three sets over Alex Markov at No. 1 and Parker in straight sets against Alain Humblet at No. 3.
CofC will wrap-up the regular season at Davidson on Sunday, April 15 at 1 p.m. (ET) in Davidson, N.C.
