CLEMSON, S.C. – College of Charleston track and field set two school records and qualified two student-athletes for the ECAC indoor championships this weekend at the Bob Pollock Invitational, a two-day meet hosted by Clemson University.
“After having shaken off the dust in our first meet, this was a huge step in the right direction with regards to establishing the momentum necessary to advance within the conference later this year,” said assistant coach Ben Yocum. “The team as a whole demonstrated a sharper competitive spirit. As we continue to sharpen our claws in both training and in competition; great performances will follow.”
Senior Lorna Doucette saw the Cougars off to a hot start, breaking a school record in the 200 meter dash with a fourth-place time of 26.07. Not to be outdone, freshman Timesha Moody then set a new school record of her own with a blazing 7.95 second performance in the prelims of the 60-meter dash.
In addition to the setting of new school records, the Cougars also qualified two competitors for the ECAC Indoor Championships in early March. For the second-consecutive season, Julisa Tindall will make the trip after jumping a height of 1.73 meters, while senior standout Tiffany Sisk hit a mark of 13.63 in the shot put to book her ticket to Boston as well.
For the second straight meet, The College's distance runners ran well, led by freshman Tori Churchill's second-place overall showing in the 5K. Sophomore Cara Butcher continued her impressive form, setting a new personal best in the mile race while Kallie Gollicher contributed with a fifth-place finish in the same event.
Next up for the Cougars is the Johnson City Indoor Invitational on Feb. 6, in Johnson City, Tenn., where the Cougars will once again be competing against some of the nation's premier talent.
