MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston baseball was shutout for the first time this season as the Cougars suffered a 2-0 loss to Campbell at Patriots Point on Wednesday evening.
Charleston (14-7 overall) lacked the timely hitting the Cougars have enjoyed recently, ultimately stranding seven baserunners and going 0-for-13 with runners on base.
Cougar pitchers limited the Camels to two runs (one unearned) on eight hits and struck out seven, but were not afforded any run support. The pitching platoon erased three runners via pickoff moves.
Wade Arduini (0-1) was tagged with the loss as one of six Cougars to take the mound in a predetermined split.
Blake Butler was one of five Cougars with a hit, extending his hitting streak to 17 games which ties for the seventh longest in program history. The streak is tied with Brett Gardner and Daniel Aldrich, who were both drafted by the New York Yankees.
The Camels got on the board in the fourth when Steven Leonard and Cole Hallum sandwiched singles around a walk to plate a run.
With rain falling in the eighth, they picked up an unearned insurance run after a wet-ball throwing error came around to score.
The College returns to Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend with a three-game set at James Madison. The series commences on Friday, March 27 at 6:30 p.m.
