NEW YORK – Former College of Charleston baseball alum and New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner is currently vying for a spot in the 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star Game that will be played on Tuesday, July 14 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Gardner is currently in a five-man race for the final spot on the 2015 American League All-Star roster that includes Mike Moustakas of the Royals, Brian Dozer of the Minnesota Twins, Yoenis Cespedes of the Detriot Tigers, and Xander Bogaerts of the Boston Red Sox.
Gardner has batted .296 through 77 games this season including 21 doubles, nine home runs, 61 runs scored, and 39 RBIs. Until this year, Gardner was the highest ever-drafted player out of The College when he was selected in the third round back in 2005, only to be surpassed by junior pitcher Taylor Clarke who was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the first pick in the third round this year.
Fans can cast votes by going to MLB.com and the New York Yankees website until 4 p.m. (EST) on Friday, July 10. The All-Star Game final vote also supports social balloting, any tweet that includes a designated hashtag (#VOTEGARDY) will be tabulated as part of the official vote total used to determine the AL winners.
In addition, fans can use their mobile devices to vote at MLB.com/vote or via text message. To receive the ballot, text the word "VOTE" to 89269.
