Cougars Stumble in 4-1 Loss to JMU
10/14/2016 9:59:00 PM | Women's Soccer
HARRISONBURG, VA. - The College of Charleston women's soccer team (9-6-1; 2-3-1 vs. CAA) went down 2-0 in the opening two minutes and couldn't recover Friday night, falling to the James Madison Dukes (7-8; 4-2 vs. CAA) by a score of 4-1.
• After going down 3-0 following a JMU penalty kick in the 25th minute, Laura Ortega breathed some hope into her CofC squad when she streaked in from the left side and curved the ball home from 25 yards out (30'). It was Ortega's sixth goal of the season, and at 18 points, she ranks fifth in the CAA.
• JMU scored just 22 seconds into the game off the foot of Steffi Page, and Ashley Herndon would score just a minute and a half later to put the College into the early deep hole. Herndon scored yet again by way of a PK later in the half.
• The lion's share of the second half was spent in the midfield as James Madison sought to protect its lead. Despite the lopsided score, the College hung around in shots, matching the Dukes at 11 a piece.
The Cougars will have the chance at retribution Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they head east face off against Towson (6-9-1; 3-3 vs. CAA). The Tigers will come off a 1-0 home-victory against UNCW.
