Cougars Jump Into Tie For First With Sweep Of Tribe

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Senior middle blocker Maddie Hills (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) closed out her TD Arena career in style on Sunday with a pair of career-highs to lead the College of Charleston volleyball team to a straight-set sweep of William and Mary in Colonial Athletics Association play on her Senior Day.
 
With the win and losses by Northeastern and Hofstra this afternoon, the College of Charleston (17-10, 10-5 CAA) vaults into a tie with Northeastern (20-9, 10-5 CAA) atop the CAA standings heading into the final week of the regular season.
 
The Cougars won the match in straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-22, and 25-20, while posting 43 kills, 56 digs, eight blocks and a .262 hitting percentage. Charleston held William and Mary (8-19, 2-13 CAA) to 30 kills, 40 digs, seven blocks and a .121 clip on the attack.
 
Hills was honored prior to the match as part of the Cougars' annual Senior Day ceremony, and celebrated her final match in TD Arena with a career day. The Toronto, Ontario, Canada native posted 12 kills and three blocks to go along with career-highs of eight digs and three service aces.
 
Riana Brennan (Los Gatos, Calif.) added nine kills, eight blocks and three aces, while Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) and Maddie LeGrande (Champagne, Ill.) added eight and seven kills, respectively. LeGrande and Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio) each tallied four blocks as Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) recorded 39 assists and eight digs.
 
Sydney Biniak paced William and Mary with eight of the Tribe's 30 kills, as Casey Foote added 11 digs and six smashes. Katie Kemp and Autumn Brenner dished out 16 and 10 assists, respectively, as Paige Humphrey tallied a team-high four blocks.
 
Charleston will close out the 2016 regular season next Sunday, November 13 in Wilmington, N.C. against UNC Wilmington. First serve is slated for 1:00 pm from Hanover Hall.
