Cougars Close Out Non-Conference Slate at Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (2-8) will head across town to tip off with Lowcountry rivals Charleston Southern (6-3) on Thursday at 2 p.m. in their final non-conference game of the season.

The Cougars come off a thrilling home game with Coastal Carolina in which CofC came up just short in a 79-72 defeat. The game featured 12 lead changes, and things were all knotted up with less than two minutes to play when CCU made their final surge to seize the win. Breanna Bolden had one of the greatest halves of basketball in her career, scoring 20 points on 10 of 14 shooting in the opening frame. She would finish with 24 points and four steals, and she currently ranks seventh in the country in steals per game at 3.8 SPG.

Bolden wasn't the only Cougar to perform well against CCU. Shiclasia Brown matched career-highs in both scoring (14 Pts) and rebounding (6 Reb), while Dajah Logan set a new career-best 11 rebounds to go along with her nine points. Darien Huff hit a buzzer-beating three to close out the first half, finishing with 12 points on the day.

Unsurprisingly, the Cougars have played the Buccaneers more than any other team on record, with Thursday accounting for the 62nd meeting between the two teams dating back to 1976-77. The College holds the distinct 49-12 edge in the series, and have won the last two matchups. The last time they played was last season in TD Arena, a game where the Cougars emerged as 81-66 victors. Bolden led all scorers with 24 points, while Huff, Jackie Luna-Castro and Kelsey Booth all managed to record double-digit scoring as well.

At 6-3 on the year, the Bucs have pulled off a productive non-conference season, and just recently rode a four-game winning streak. That came to an end at home in their last game against Wofford however, as the Terriers cruised to a 59-45 win thanks to a poor shooting night from CSU. The Buccaneers are led by Alyssa Mann, Ke'Asia Jackson and Rachel Burns, all of whom have averaged double-digit scoring this season. Mann also leads the way in assists (4.9 APG) and steals (2.3 SPG), while Elyse Kiploks is the team's primary inside-presence, leading the squad with 7 rebound and 1.3 blocks per contest.

For those wishing to take the jaunt across town, tickets are still available, and cost five dollars for general admission.
