Barbot Named to Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watch List

HOPEWELL, N.J. – Taryn Barbot was named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Preseason Watch List, as announced by Her Hoop Stats Wednesday morning.

The award, which is entering its seventh season, recognizes the best mid-major player in the country. The full 2026 preseason watch list is made up of 25 players from 19 teams and 12 conferences.

The list is fluid, and players may play their way on or off it over the course of the season. There will be condensed lists released throughout the year and the winner will be selected around the Final Four.

Barbot is the first-ever Cougar to make the list and the only CAA player to earn a spot on the preseason list this year. The Floral Park, N.Y. native is no stranger to awards, she was the CAA Player of the Year as well as an All-CAA First Team and All-CAA Defensive Team member last year.

During the 2024-25 campaign, Barbot led the conference in eight statistical categories, averaged 17.7 points per game, 7.2 rebounds per contest and shot 38.1 percent. She also made 87 threes, which ranked 20th in the country. The junior guard set a career-high and tied the program record with 40 points against the UNCW Seahawks with her 15-for-22 performance March 2, 2024.

In the 2023-24 season, Barbot led the CAA in scoring, was the CAA Rookie of the Year and made the All-CAA Second Team and All-Rookie team after her strong freshman campaign.

As a team, Charleston was picked as the preseason favorite in the CAA Coaches' Poll earlier this month, and the Cougars will begin their 2025-26 campaign at home against Covenant College Monday, November 3rd. The Cougars' full schedule can be found here.
