CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston volleyball team (2-1) played a balanced match finishing Binghamton (0-3) off in three sets, 25-13, 26-24, 25-19, to close out tournament play of the season-opening Hampton Inn Charleston/West Ashley CofC Invitational on Saturday night at TD Arena.

Inside the Stats: Senior middle blocker Maddie Hills (3 solo blocks, 5 kills and .500 hitting percentage), junior college transfer Riana Brennan (7 kills and 16 digs), sophomore middle blocker Kennedy Madison (9 kills), freshman outside hitter Lauren Freed (9 kills and 9 digs) and junior middle blocker Krissy Mummey (6 kills and .364 hitting percentage).
Coach Kepner Thoughts: “We got a chance to see a lot of people play this weekend. We are still working out some communication issues that go with having nine new players. We definitely got better-and-better each match and it was great to finish up the weekend with a good team win. We look forward to getting back in the gym and fine-tuning the small details, before heading out on our first road trip of the season next weekend.”
Players of the Match: Sophomore libero McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) led the defensive attack for the Cougars with 11 digs and a team-leading 38 in all three matches combined. CofC hit .278 for the match and held Binghamton to a .049 hitting percentage.
All-Tournament Team: South Carolina won the team tournament title behind its freshman outside hitter Mikayla Shields, who was named MVP. South Carolina's Aubrey Ezell and Koko Atoa-Williams were named to the all-tournament team along with College of Charleston's Maddie Hills and McKala Rhodes, UT Martin's Madison Wessling and Binghamton's Sarah Ngo.
Up Next: The Cougars will travel next to the Demon Deacon Classic hosted by Wake Forest on Sept. 2-3 in Winston-Salem, N.C. They will face Loyola on Friday at 4:30 p.m. (ET) and the Demon Deacons on Saturday at 1 p.m. and old Southern Conference rival Davidson at 5 p.m.
