KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – College of Charleston senior Parker Derby (Columbus, Ga.) carded a three-round, 1-under par 215 on his scorecard to lead the men's golf team to a Top-5 finish on the final day of The Invitational at The Ocean Course.

Derby shot rounds of 71, 70 and 74, while freshman Logan Sowell (Kershaw, S.C.) tied for 23rd individually with a three-round, even-par 216 in his collegiate debut.

The Cougars tied Augusta for fifth with a three-round 863 (-1) in the 16-team field, while Middle Tennessee State shot an 850 (-14) to claim the tournament title. Ole Miss was runner-up (-8), Maryland third (-5) and Georgia Southern fourth (-4). Jake Marriott of Augusta claimed individual medalist honors shooting -9 for the tournament with a first-round 66.

"This was a good start to the season for us," CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "I feel that we saw some great play from our younger players on the team. We also saw solid play from (Parker) Derby and (Logan) Sowell. I am excited to get back in action this weekend in Nashville."

The Cougars will travel next to The Grove Intercollegiate on Sept. 18-20 in Nashville, Tenn.

Tournament Notes: Jake Marriott carded a three-round score of 207 which tied 2013 individual medalist Joey Garber of Georgia for lowest tournament total. Middle Tennessee State shot a three-round score of 850 which tied South Florida in 2014 for the lowest total in the seven-year history of the tournament. Georgia State's first-round 270 and Middle Tennessee State's second-round 275 are the now the No. 1 and No. 2 lowest rounds by a team in tournament history.
