MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – A return to the Lowcountry wasn't enough to propel the College of Charleston men's soccer team (2-5-1) back to its winning ways Wednesday night, as the Cougars ended up falling 2-0 to the visiting Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (3-4-1).
• The Chanticleers got on the board early in the seventh minute when David Raizes found Frantzdy Pierrot waiting in the box, who clanked it off the post and in for the first goal of the game. The Cougars managed to keep the game to a one goal disadvantage until the 63rd minute when a streaking Martin Melchor broke past the defense and scored far-side for the insurance goal.
• The Cougars were out-shot 15-7 on the night, with Cesar Murillo and Nicolas Jeausseran leading the team with two shots a piece. Kevin Shields had five saves in defeat.
• The game was a scrappy contest for both teams. They combined for four yellow cards and 22 fouls.
The Cougars will once again hit the road and resume CAA competition in a 7 p.m. showdown against the James Madison Dukes (0-7-3) on Saturday.
