HARRISONBURG, Va. --- Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio) paced four players in double-figure kills,
McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) recorded 27 digs, and
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) dished out 53 assists as the College of Charleston volleyball team held on for a thrilling five-set Colonial Athletic Association win over James Madison on Sunday afternoon to hand the Dukes their first loss of the season.
College of Charleston (14-4, 3-1 CAA) won the match by scores of 27-25, 25-22, 21-25, 19-25, and 17-15, while tallying 66 kills, 78 digs, and seven blocks. James Madison (12-1, 3-1 CAA) totaled 70 kills, 75 blocks, 21 blocks, and seven service aces.
Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) posted a double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs, as
Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) added a double-double of her own with 14 kills and 10 digs. Mummey and
Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) each tallied 13 kills with three and four blocks, respectively, as Beckman recorded 53 assists and eight digs. Rhodes and
Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) totaled 27 and 14 digs, respectively.
Bryn Recker paced the Dukes with match-highs of 20 kills and four service aces to go along with 14 digs and five blocks; M'Kaela White and Taylor Gail each tallied a double-double, as White posted 15 kills and 11 blocks compared to 14 kills and 10 stuffs for Gail. Sarah Martin and Tilbe Yaglioglu dished out 32 and 28 assists, respectively, as Martin added 11 blocks. Taylor Austin recorded a match-high 28 digs, while Kelly Vahos totaled 15 digs and nine kills.
The Cougars return to the court on Friday, October 6 to host Towson (16-2, 2-2 CAA) in CAA play. First serve is slated for 7:00 pm.
