MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team (5-5-1; 0-2-1) dropped a heart-breaker in double-overtime on Sunday, succumbing 2-1 to Elon (8-4-2; 1-2-1) at Patriots Point.
• Elon wasted no time getting on the board, as Taylor Paradoski set up Hannah Doherty for a chip shot (3') that snuck its way in between the post and
Genevieve Henderson to give the Phoenix the early lead. It wasn't until the 68
th minute when
Laura Ortega fired a free kick from the top of the box that the game was tied back up.
• Three minutes into the second overtime period, Meredith Christopher took a close-range shot on goal that Henderson managed to reject. Christopher collected her own rebound, and was able to put the golden goal in the back of the net to lift Elon to the win.
• Elon outshot the Cougars 15-9 on the game, compounding the advantage in overtime with a 5-1 margin in the extra periods. Defenders
Meredith Tunney and
Hannah Huizenga finished the game with full 103-minute loads in front of Henderson.
The College will look to bounce back on the road this Thursday, when they head north to take on James Madison.
