Cougars Host Blue Hens for Octoberfest
10/20/2017 5:59:00 PM | Men's Soccer
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team (7-5-2; 3-1-2) looks to maintain its standing among the top teams in the conference this weekend, as they are set to host the Delaware Blue Hens (5-5-3; 2-3-1) at 7 p.m. at Patriots Point on Saturday.
Saturday will mark the Cougars' Octoberfest game, where fans can purchase a special $11 ticket that, in addition to granting admission, also covers a beer and a pretzel.
The Cougars ride the longest active unbeaten streak in the CAA at six straight. The Cougars most recently traveled to Rock Hill, S.C., where they defeated the Winthrop Eagles by a score of 1-0. Kevin Shields came away with the shutout, while freshman Ben Tansley's first collegiate goal stood up as the game-winner.
The Cougars will be looking for their first win in program history against the Blue Hens, who have gone 4-0-1 against the College since CofC joined the CAA back in 2013. The last time the two teams faced was at a neutral site encounter in Hempstead, N.Y. during the CAA Tournament. The Cougars managed to even up the game with just over 10 minutes to go on a PK goal from Leland Archer, but Delaware managed to seal the game on a Guillermo Delgado goal in the 89th minute.
The reigning CAA champs have yet to win a game in the month of October, with their last win coming six games ago against the Drexel Dragons. Fede Prieto leads the team on offense with four goals on the year, while Todd Morton is the team's netminder with a 0.97 GAA and four shutouts for the season.
CofC enters the game in a tie for second place in the conference, and one of five teams at the top of the standings separated by two points. The Cougars can move up to first if they can pull off a superior result than UNCW on Saturday. The Seahawks are on the road against Hofstra this week.
Tickets are still available by visiting CofCSports.com/Tickets or by calling (843) 953-COFC.
