Cougars Tie UD, Claim Third Clean Sheet of the Season

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Despite a dominant performance on the offensive end, the College of Charleston men's soccer team (7-5-3; 3-1-3) were unable to pick up the elusive win against the Delaware Blue Hens (5-5-4; 2-3-2) on Saturday night, as the two teams finished with a clean sheet.
• The Cougars out-shot Delaware 6-1 in the first half, and went on to add on that lead by finishing the game up 14-3. Leland Archer and Eli Dent each finished with a game-high three attempts. Leland Archer had the best chance of the night when the Cougars were awarded an indirect kick in the first half, but his attempt careened off a Delaware defender.
• Kevin Shields earned the shutout under a light load, only having to make one save on the evening. However, it was a high degree-of-difficulty stop in the first half, as he had to make a diving stop on a Matt Baquero attempt in the 34th minute.
• Todd Morton earned the shutout on the other end of the field, making five saves and facing many more dangerous CofC chances than the 14 shots might indicate.
• With the draw, CofC drops to third place in the conference behind JMU and Hofstra, who were both winners on Saturday. With Hofstra having played their final CAA-contest of the season, the Cougars can secure a first round bye with a win in their final regular season game, and can potentially win the regular season as well with an accompanying JMU loss or draw to Drexel.
The Cougars host the William & Mary Tribe next Saturday night for senior day.
