10/27/2017 2:39:00 PM | Men's Soccer
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's soccer team (7-5-3) will face-off against the William & Mary Tribe (8-4-4) at Patriots Point this on Saturday at 7 pm. for their senior day matchup.
A total of nine seniors will be recognized in a ceremony that will begin 30 minutes prior to game time. Those include Kevin Shields, Cesar Murillo, Lorenz Esposito, Leland Archer, Vebjorn Krovel, T.K. Abderahman, Avery Ryan and Paul Burdick.
The College will also be celebrating their Halloween Match, with trick or treating pre-game and a costume contest at half-time for kids.
The game will be of critical importance in the CAA standings, as eight of the nine teams in the conference will be active. With a win, the College would secure a first round bye, and may even secure a regular season conference championship and the privilege of hosting the semifinals and finals if James Madison draws or falls to Drexel. No matter what happens, the Cougars have already clinched a tournament berth.
The Cougars have been undefeated in their last seven games. Their last game, a home-affair against the reigning CAA Champion Delaware Blue Hens, resulted in a scoreless tie. Eli Dent leads the team on offense this year with three goals, four assists and 30 shots, while Kevin Shields registered his sixth shutout of the season against UD with a quiet one-save night.
Last year, the Cougars lost to the Tribe 3-2 on the road at Williamsburg, Va. CofC lost Shields to injury at halftime, which allowed W&M to take a 3-0 lead. Leland Archer and Nico Rittmeyer scored a goal each late in the second half to make things interesting, but it wasn't enough.
The Tribe has been undefeated in its last six games. Two were the result of ties against Coastal Carolina (1-1) and Delaware (1-1). During the Tribe's last game against CCU, Antonio Bustamante scored the teams only goal with an assist from William Eskay. Bustamante leads the team on offense with eight goals, five assists, and 54 shots.
