MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team (7-5-4; 3-1-4) clinched its highest post-season berth on Saturday since joining the CAA in 2013, as the Cougars played the William & Mary Tribe (8-4-5; 3-2-3) to a 1-1 draw.
• After a scoreless first half, the Cougars were able to get on the board first in the 64th minute. Eli Dent served in a corner kick, the ball came out of the mass of humanity where Vebjorn Krovel was waiting. The senior kicked it cleanly through the crowd and found the back of the net for his first goal in maroon and white.
• The Tribe tied the game up just four minutes later on a goal from Ryder Bell, who narrowly avoided an offside call and poked the ball home in the 68th minute.
• The Cougars had three excellent scoring opportunities that didn't pan out over the course of the game. T.K. Abderahman and Jake Nicholson both saw promising shots careen off the crossbar, once in each half. Nicholson came close once again when an apparent goal of his was waved off due to an offside call late in the first half.
• With the draw, the Cougars wind up as the third seed, and will host the Elon Phoenix next Saturday at 2 p.m. within the friendly confines of Patriots Point. They enter postseason play riding an eight-game unbeaten streak.
• James Madison clinched the regular season championship with a win over Drexel, and will host the semifinal and final rounds of the tournament. The winner of the CofC/Elon matchup will travel to Harrisonburg, Va. in a neutral site showdown against the No. 2 seed UNCW Seahawks.
