Men’s Soccer Hosts Elon in CAA Quarterfinal

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The postseason begins on Saturday for the College of Charleston men's soccer team (7-5-4), who will host the Elon Phoenix (7-4-6) at Patriots Point in a 7 p.m. showdown in the CAA Quarterfinals.
The Cougars finished the season as the No. 3 seed in the CAA, which was their highest finish since joining the conference back in 2013. Senior forward Eli Dent lead the team in nearly every offensive category (3g, 5a, 31 shots), while senior keeper Kevin Shields has averaged a 0.88 GAA and a 75.4% save percentage.
CofC is red-hot entering the tournament, riding an eight-game unbeaten streak that dates back to September. In fact, their regular season contest on the road against the Phoenix was what kicked the streak off in the first place, as the game finished in a scoreless draw. Since joining NCAA Division I, the Cougars are 11-6-2 against Elon. The last four straight games the two teams have played over the last three years have gone to double-overtime.
Elon enters the tournament on a winning streak of their own, closing out the regular season with one-goal wins over Drexel, Davidson and Delaware, the latter of which clinched their postseason berth. At six ties on the year, the Phoenix ranks second in the nation in that category, trailing only Siena. They have four players with at least three goals on the year, while Matthew Jegier has been dominant in frame for the team with 10 shutouts and a sterling 85.2% save percentage.
