The College Claws Past Tigers For 11th Straight Win

TOWSON, Md. --- The No. 24 (VolleyballMag.com Mid-Major) College of Charleston volleyball team pushed its win-streak to 11 matches, and clinched a first-round bye in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship with a 3-1 win over Towson on Friday evening behind a double-double from Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) and a dominating performance by Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio).
 
With the victory, College of Charleston (23-4, 12-1 CAA) wrapped up a first-round bye in the CAA Tournament while maintaining a two-match lead atop the conference standings. The Cougars finished the night with 58 kills, 70 digs, nine blocks, and a .278 hitting percentage, while limiting Towson (23-4, 9-4 CAA) to 49 kills, 62 digs, 5.5 blocks, and a .141 attacking clip.
 
Mummey paced the Cougars with 15 kills and a .407 hitting percentage, while adding seven blocks to move into eighth on the program's all-time list. Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) posted a team-high 16 kills to go along with eight digs and two blocks, as Beckman accounted for a double-double with 46 assists and 14 digs. McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) recorded a match-high 23 digs to move into eighth on the program's all-time list, while Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) chipped in 11 kills and nine, respectively.
 
Jocelyn Kuilan and Olivia Finckel led the way for Towson with 15 and 13 kills, respectively, as Marrisa Wonders recorded a double-double with 29 assists and 11 digs. Anne Holehouse paced the defense with 20 digs, while Silvia Grassini added five blocks, and Julymar Otero tallied 10 digs.
 
The Cougars will wrap up the road swing on Sunday when they travel to Newark, Del. to take on Delaware (5-17, 3-9 CAA). First serve is slated for 1:00 pm.
