CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (1-2) hosts its second match of the month this Thursday at 1 p.m., when it will face off with Coastal Carolina (5-1) at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
The Cougars come off a close 4-3 loss to Winthrop at home two weeks ago. The Cougars won their three lower singles flights thanks to strong performances from Helena Nyikos, Rachel McNeely and Anastasia Palaska. However, the Eagles prevailed in the top three singles flights, and captured the doubles point 2-1 to win the day against the Cougars.
The College has dominated the series with the Chanticleers, sporting a 14-2 record against them since CofC jumped to Division I prior to the 1992 season. The two teams played last season for the first time in over seven years, where the Cougars grabbed the 6-1 victory on the road.
After losing its home-opener to Furman, CCU has rallied to win the last five consecutive matchups by a combined margin of 26-5. Earlier in the month, they played CofC's CAA-foe UNCW, picking up the 4-3 victory. Rylie Cox leads the team from the first flight of both singles and doubles play, where she carries a 4-2 and 3-2 record on the season respectively.
Admission to the match is free for all who wish to attend.
