MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (12-5) saw its seven-match winning streak come to an end Thursday, as the visiting Clemson Tigers (8-8) were able to push their way to a 4-0 win.
Doubles play went by quickly, with Clemson picking up decisive wins on courts one and three. Mara Argyriou and Anastasia Palaska were cruising their way toward victory in the second flight up 4-1 before play was called with the point decided.
Singles play went in a similar trajectory. Argyriou was holding her own in the second flight with Ayan Broomfield, the No. 83 ranked player in singles, going blow for blow before dropping the first set 6-4. When play was called, Argyriou, Rachel McNeely and Turner Yates all walked off the courts with their matches unfinished.
The Cougars' 10-match home stand finally comes to an end, and they'll now hit the road for a pair of CAA foes on Saturday and Sunday with Towson and Drexel.
