ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. --- The College of Charleston beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at the University of North Florida Invitational. The Cougars opened the season with a 5-0 loss to No. 8 Georgia State before rebounding with a 5-0 win over Spring Hill College (Ala.).
In the nightcap,
Maddie Hills (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) and
Katja Ehlers (Raleigh, N.C.) took the first flight, 21-15, 21-17.
Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio) and McKayla Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) made quick work of the second flight, 21-18, 21-17, as
Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) and Rianna Brennan (Los Gatos, Calif.) emerged with a 21-14, 14-21, 15-6 victory in the third flight.
Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) and
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) claimed the fourth flight, 21-17, 21-11, while
Taylor Foley (Agoura Hills, Calif.) and
Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) completed the sweep with a 21-17, 21-14 win in the final flight.
The Cougars will finish the weekend with two matches on Sunday. An 11:30 am matchup with South Carolina will precede a 1:30 pm showdown with No. 11 Florida International.
