Auburn, Ala. – Auburn scored eight runs over the second and third innings and handed the College of Charleston an 8-0 loss in five innings in the final game of the Wilson/DeMarini Classic at Jane B. Moore Field.
The Cougars (8-8) had three hits including a pair by Taylor DuPree, and Brittany Violette worked two scoreless innings. Taylor Belfiore added her fourth double of the season to lead off the second but was stranded at third.
DuPree singled to open the first against Kaylee Carlson but was erased on a double play. She had her second base hit in the third but was caught stealing for the first time in eight tries this year.
Violette walked one in a scoreless first and re-entered the game in the fourth and again allowed only a single base runner. In between, however, the second-ranked Tigers (19-2) scored eight times against a trio of CofC pitchers, with Kasey Cooper driving in four of them with a double in the second and single in the third.
Carlson picked up her second win of the weekend against the Cougars, allowing all three hits in three innings to improve to 11-0.
CofC returns home next weekend to host the Holy City Showdown. The Cougars play five games in three days beginning with Friday evening contests against North Carolina and Northern Kentucky.
