Cougars Set To Face Delaware To Open CAA Tournament

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston baseball team will begin its run in the 2017 Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Wednesday afternoon, when the fifth-seeded Cougars face fourth-seeded Delaware in the opening game of the tournament. First pitch is now scheduled for 1:00 pm at Brooks Field on the campus of UNC Wilmington due to heavy rain in the Wilmington area throughout the day Tuesday. Sophomore Evan Sisk (Chester, S.C.) will take the ball opposite Delaware redshirt junior Ron Marinaccio.

The Cougars bounced back with an 11-7 win over Delaware on Saturday to prevent a weekend sweep by the Blue Hens. Tommy Richter paced the offense with a 4-for-6 afternoon that included a home run and five RBIs, while Danny Wondrack went 3-for-5 and drove in three.

Junior Tommy Richter provided a substantial boost to the Cougar offense in Saturday's win over Delaware, going 4-for-6 with one homer and five RBIs. The effort allowed Richter to vault into the CAA lead in batting average on the final day of the regular season. The balance of his output came in the seventh inning, when he led off the frame with a home run before sending a bases-clearing three-run double to center later in the inning.
Stuffing the Trophy Case
Redshirt sophomore Logan McRae and Tommy Richter each took home All-CAA First Team honors on Tuesday to pace five Cougars amongst the league's postseason honorees. Evan Sisk and Carter Love both earned a spot on the Second Team, while Jakob Frishmuth was named to the All-Rookie Team.

Delaware carries a 30-21 overall record into the CAA Tournament, and is the fourth seed after taking two-of-three from CofC this past weekend.
Nick Patten leads the Blue Hens with 13 home runs and 45 RBIs while batting .306. Doug Trimble carries a .343 batting average with six homers and 43 RBIs, while Jordan Glover is batting .331 with 10 bombs and 44 driven in. Wednesday's starter Ron Marinaccio carries a 3-2 record with a 2.19 ERA and 60 strikeouts.
