Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Cougars Succumb 2-1 to Coastal Carolina

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – An early-game shooting barrage gave the College of Charleston women's soccer team (1-1) an early advantage on Sunday night at Patriots Point, but it wasn't enough to stave off the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (2-0) in a 2-1 defeat.

• The Cougars had the clear advantage in offensive opportunities, particularly in the early game. CofC finished with eight corners to CCU's zero, and outshot the Chanticleers 10-3 by the end of the first half.

• In the 30th minute, Kalli Vogel broke the scoreless deadlock when she gathered up a rebound attempt at the top of the box and fired it home into the left corner just past the reach of the sprawled out keeper. That would stand up going into half-time as the only goal of the period.

• The two teams played over 20 minutes of scoreless action in the second half until Daniella Famili converted on two scoring opportunities to put the Chanticleers up 2-1 with just 15 minutes to play. Though the Cougars would take three of their corners in that final stretch, they couldn't find the back of the net and CCU escaped with the win.

Laura Ortega led all players in shots, with six.

The Cougars now get set to embark on the road for the first time this season, and will meet Virginia Tech on Friday night at 7 p.m.
