8/27/2017 9:32:00 PM | Men's Soccer
MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team (1-1) closed out the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Soccer Classic on a high note Sunday night, defeating the Monmouth Hawks (1-1) 1-0 in a highly contested affair.
• The first half came and went with neither team scoring a goal, though CofC had the 5-2 advantage in shots. Avery Ryan led the way with a game-high total of three.
• Monmouth made an early mistake in the second half by committing a foul in the box, setting up a go-ahead Leland Archer PK that would prove to be the lone goal of the game.
• The Hawks responded to the deficit with urgency, earning several deep free kicks and corners, as evidenced by their 10-1 advantage from the flags. The Cougar defense rose to the occasion to preserve the shutout for Kevin Shields despite being outshot 9-4 in the second frame.
• For their strong defensive play all weekend, Archer, Temi Adesodun and Scotty Frantz were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Cougars will now pack their bags in preparation for a weekend road trip to Florida that will pit them against Florida Atlantic on Friday and FIU next Sunday.
