Heffron’s Heroics Lift CofC to Dramatic 1-0 Double OT Win at FAU
9/1/2017 3:38:00 PM | Men's Soccer
BOCA RATON, FLA. – In a game that looked all but certain to end in a scoreless draw, Tucker Heffron arose as the hero for the College of Charleston men's soccer team in double overtime to lift the Cougars to the 1-0 win over Florida Atlantic.
• Junior defender Temi Adesodun made the play happen for the College, sending in a deep service from the left side ten yards beyond the perimeter of the box. Heffron was in the perfect position on the far side, rose for the header, and delivered it back to the left side in the 104th minute to seal the win for the Cougars. Heffron was aggressive all game long, tallying a game-high four shots on the day.
• Prior to the goal, chances were abundant for both teams as CofC outshot the Owls 13-8, but quality looks were hard to come by as the SOG category was just 4-3. The Cougars earned more corner kick opportunities with seven to FAU's four.
• Kevin Shields' defense played well in front of him, and the senior keeper was only called upon to make three saves on the day. Of note, Cesar Murillo, Leland Archer and Vebjorn Krovel all played full loads for the Cougars. Shields earned his second consecutive shutout after blanking Monmouth last weekend.
The Cougars will hope to pick up right where they left off on Sunday when they take on FIU in Miami for a 1 p.m. encounter.
